It may take up to 2 business days (M-F, excluding holidays) to receive a response to your question, critique, or ProQuest submission - especially during high-volume times in the quarter.

Who owns the copyright of my thesis or dissertation?

Answer

As the author, you own the copyright. According to the U.S. Copyright Act, once a work is fixed in a tangible form (e.g. your manuscript), copyright is assigned automatically. You own that copyright until you agree in writing to transfer it to another party, such as a journal publisher. Though it is not required, you may choose to register your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office. Potential benefits of registration may be found in the U.S. Copyright Office FAQ
